Our History
The Professional Wound Management Society, or WoundsSA, is a non-profit organisation established May 12, 2022. A key reason for starting WoundsSA was that the South African Nursing Council (SANC) did not recognise Advanced Wound Management as a specialty. This lack of recognition by SANC was an area of concern, with evidence of nurses causing harm to patients due to a lack of knowledge in advanced wound management. Another issue to tackle was the general public's unawareness that advanced wound management is indeed a specialty. With these and other issues to address, several like-minded individuals formed WoundsSA.
